Kickstarter Board Game Miniatures : AltarQuest Painted to Standard Quality

Doing miniature painting for Kickstarter board games keep us on our toes. You never know what you’re going to get. You see different designs and styles from the usual. Often, the figures are as good as the ones the big-name brands produce.

We painted quite a large number of figures recently for a game named AltarQuest. It didn’t just have a range of monsters, but also terrain. That’s all I know about the game! This blog is about our miniature painting service. Here is what we painted.

Kickstarter Painting: Anno 1666

Anno 1666 is a Kickstarter board game set in 17th Century Vienna:

“It is the year of our Lord 1666. Emperor Leopold is dead. The election looms. European monarchs send their envoys to Vienna to participate. But the struggle for the Empire's future takes place not only at the noble courts. In Vienna's slums and alleys swashbucklers, musketeers and thugs wage a secret war on behalf of their powerful superiors.” [Board Game Geek]

We were commissioned by one of the creators to paint up a nice big set of these very characterful minis. My favorite in the Not-Leon. You can’t miss him.

We recently did a some of CMON’s “Hate” miniatures, based on the Adrian Smith comics. I’ve seen a lot of crazy minis in this job, but I haven’t seen anything like these in a long time.

LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THE BOSSES.

Normally we split large orders across several painters, to reduce the risk (and impact) of delays. Here however, Vasanth decided it would better if we gave the whole lot to one painter, who has a knack for, well, insane figures. It was a good call: the look and feel are more consistent, and because he could get used to the sculpting style, Sadeep, the painter, got faster towards the end.
